U11 players, for the 2024 lacrosse season, are those players born between January 1, 2014 and December 31, 2015.
U11 Season Play will begin April 13-14th, 2024. For the remainder of 2024 Box Lacrosse playing season, weekday games will be scheduled on Tuesday and Thursday, with a start time of 6:00pm or 7:00pm. Practices will be scheduled once floor time availability it released.
These years are crucial to the long term development of our athletes and solidify the future of strong A & B programs. The coach's goal should be that all kids are enjoying the game but feel challenged to improve their individual technical skills and begin to have an understanding of team systems. As in all levels of play the ultimate measure of a coach is not the win/loss record, but athlete retention with all players returning to play the following season.
Team costs should be planned for in a team budget and agreed to by the parents. Collecting seed money or fundraising to cover tournament fees etc. is acceptable but funds should be deposited to a bank account opened for the team. Families are not obligated to participate in tournaments or any additional fundraising beyond their registration fee so it is important to present a proposed plan at your parent meeting early in the season to gain support. All parents must sign off on the budget at the outset of the season, with copy sent to division director, and again at the conclusion of the season. Any leftover seed money must be returned to the members by July 30th and a final copy of the budget forwarded to the division director. Any funds remaining after the seed money has been paid back to parents; becomes the property of the South Edmonton Warriors Lacrosse Club and a check clearing your account should be turned over to the Warriors Treasurer by July 30th.
Coaches and bench staff require a Community Development course for this level. It is the volunteer's responsibility to complete this course and the subsequent work book before the end of the playing season. More information on coaching requirements can be found on our website.
Many players still begin lacrosse in U11 and as such equipment questions will come your way. Although the minimum requirements can be found at the equipment page of our website we strongly recommend the following items be purchased to promote quicker development of skills:
Goalie selection/development - The ALA LTAD supports players committing to the position of goalie at U11 and the Warriors will supply goalie gear. Things to consider in developing your goalie at this age:
- Understanding the 5 shooter angles
- Centering themselves in the net, completing a post check after each shot
- Stand tall, shoulders back and step out to block the net
- Shooters must avoid head shots (will create flinching and fear of the ball)
