This is our future and the goals should be simple; engage the kids in fun games that promote skills development and a love for the game. The coach's goal should be that all kids re-register the following season.
Coaches and bench staff require a Community Initiation course for this level. It is the volunteer's responsibility to complete this course and the subsequent work book before the end of the playing season.
Many parents have questions about properly outfitting their children at this age. We strongly recommend that lacrosse gloves are invested in but the minimum requirements can be found at the equipment page of our website.
Goalie selection/development - The ALA LTAD states that no player at this age group should play goalie exclusively. The Warriors encourage the coaching staff to allow all players to try goalie and then at U9 encourage the player that showed the most ability to stick with it over the final few games of the season. Often kids don't know if they will like it until they try and this position is a challenge to fill as the club grows.
As an association, we are hoping to see every one of these players commit to lacrosse as their spring sport. As such, we place a priority on trying to keep friends together year after year and honor such requests as best we can within a team parity framework. Team sizes are subject to GELC guidelines: U9 rosters of 8-16 are permitted.
